Through The Hotel Window is about places - a travel photography journal in which I combine my passions for travelling and photography through three themes: views from hotel rooms around the world, street and travel, and a stretch of the River Thames near London. River Thames, Isleworth to Chiswick
(Contains 24 photos) River Thames Isleworth to Chiswick is a nine-year, personal photographic documentary of a three-mile stretch of the river, west of London between Richmond Lock and Kew Bridge. As a child and teenager, I both lived and then later spent a lot of time here. As an adult, having moved further out, I visit whenever I can. Which has always been often. Through Kew and going west, the river passes Brentford Ait, Watermans Park and Lot’s Ait, where at Brentford Dock the River Brent spurs through Thames Lock and the Grand Union Canal Walk, passing under the High Street and making its way out to the Grand Union Canal network. The Thames continues past Syon Park, Isleworth Ait and Isleworth Reach to Richmond Lock where beyond here it flows through Richmond, Twickenham and Teddington. I captured my first image here in 2008 and I continued until 2019. In that time, media and the locals talked about the ‘Brentford Project’ and the planned redevelopment of the area through to Watermans Park, which finally began in 2019. As someone who grew up here with a deep affection for the area, I wanted to record a series of images that everyone sees – but perhaps doesn’t notice - whilst walking between the two points. The redevelopment was inevitable – and it’s beautiful, I love it - but in that time, so much has changed and disappeared. River Thames Isleworth to Chiswick is a record of Brentford and this stretch of the river, before the redevelopment and much now no longer seen. But is, perhaps, remembered by the many locals that continue to live here… |
